At the time of writing this, its International Women's Day.
And I still feel like there's so far to go for us women. This is fuelled by the anger that I was made to put up an IWD post on my work's social media channels. Despite, being a very un-female friendly company.
There is more to this day than putting out a lazy, bullshitty social media post, or there should be anyway.
There's so many ways to make companies more female friendly, including:
Supplying Sanitary Products
Offering a decent maternity leave package
Offering menstrual leave or flexibility to work from home during this time
Being flexible to mothers
Promoting and hiring women in senior positions
Women in the Workplace 2025
But it's 2025 and I think there's still SO much work to do. Especially as a marketing girlie, I have nearly seven years experience and yet I have to explain myself to male decision makers who don't understand marketing (but obviously think they do 🙃)
My manager was let go last year, being told they want someone 'full time' and telling the other employees it was her choice to leave. Said manager (a very lovely lady and friend) was working part time due to being a mum! They knew she could never have accepted the full time role and offered it anyway, to tick their little legal boxes. And who did they replace her with? A MAN. And not just a man, a single man who had a child, and had to have flexible working in order to help with his child's school hours. Make it make sense 🤦🏻♀️
Should I mention that the only remote and hybrid employees at my company are men? Don't even get me started.
Why am I in this job may you ask? It's good money, I have somewhat creative freedom and I'm adding to my portfolio. It's not my forever job, I'd like to work for a company where women, especially marketing ladies are respected and valued.
